Lucknow/Mau: Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma laid the foundation stone for a new 132/33 KV power substation at Padarathpur in Madhuban tehsil of Mau district during his visit to the region on Sunday.
The modern electricity substation, being developed at an estimated cost of over ₹61.11 crore, will have a total capacity of 2×63 MVA (126 MVA) and is expected to significantly strengthen electricity supply in Madhuban tehsil of Mau district as well as Belthara Road tehsil in neighbouring Ballia district.
Power Supply in Madhuban and Belthara Road Areas to Improve
Addressing the gathering after the bhoomi pujan and foundation ceremony, Minister Sharma said the project was essential to meet the rapidly growing electricity demand and support continuous regional development.
He pointed out that the nearest existing 132 KV substations at Katghar Mahalu, Sebhri Jamalpur and Sikandarpur in Ballia are located far from the region, leading to difficulties in maintaining stable power supply.
According to the minister, the new substation will reduce the length of 33 KV transmission lines, which in turn will help minimise breakdowns and provide relief from low-voltage issues. Several power distribution centres, including Belauli, Bholna Par, Madhuban Old, Belthara Road, Pashuhari and Dupar, are expected to benefit from the improved infrastructure.
‘An Emotional and Proud Moment’: A.K. Sharma
Calling the occasion emotional and significant, A.K. Sharma said the project represented not merely a power substation but a major step towards accelerating development, industry, education and public services in the region.

He stated that with the blessings of the Saryu river and support of the people, another important commitment for Madhuban had been fulfilled. The minister also highlighted that both the state and central governments are working rapidly to strengthen electricity infrastructure across villages and rural areas to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Minister Appreciates Public Participation
The minister thanked more than 5,000 people who attended the event despite the intense heatwave conditions prevailing in the state.
He specially appreciated those who travelled to the venue by e-rickshaw, bicycle and on foot, saying their participation reflected public trust in regional development initiatives. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s call for environmentally conscious public participation.
Reliable and Uninterrupted Electricity Supply Expected
Officials said the proposed 132 KV Padarathpur substation would substantially improve the reliability and continuity of electricity supply in the border areas of Mau and Ballia districts.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to benefit domestic consumers, farmers, traders and small industries while also supporting economic activities and overall regional growth in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
